June 2nd, Pin Oak Lodge, near Chariton in Lucas County.
We caught a break in the rain to have near perfect weather for our foray in Lucas County. We met at the Conservation building, then carpooled to a nearby woods. A local old-timer told us the woods was clear-cut in the mid 70's. This was clear by the age and size of the trees. While it was a nice woods, it just wasn't old enough to have a lot of fungi. That and the drought in this part of the state did not help matters. Overall, we did find about 25 species that we could identify, but nothing too exciting or exotic.

Here we are before heading into the woods:

We found some Fairy Pins on Purple Tooth. The pins are barely visible to the naked eye.

Dean found a stick with both Split Gill and Milk Tooth next to each other. This is unusual, as you normally only find one fungus on small sticks like this.

On our way out of the woods, we spotted this cool looking dragonfly.
