September 16th, Rodgers Park, Benton Co. Iowa

It has been really dry around here, so we didn't expect to find much at Rodger's Park. The county naturalist, Caitlin, did a great job of promoting the event, and we had a large crowd that gathered by the lake before heading into the woods.

Before long, we found some Polyporus radicatus, Dead Man's Fingers, and old oyster mushrooms.

We found the same Artist's Conk that we first found two years ago. It has grown much bigger, and has a somewhat unusual shape. Here we can see that it provides entertainment by recording the fingerprints of a girl.

Despite the dry conditions, we found a reasonable number of mushrooms. There were a lot of Polyporus radicatus and Dead Man's Fingers. We find these mushrooms elsewhere, but seldom in the quantity found at Rodger's Park. All-in-all, a fairly productive outing on a beautiful day.

Saturday, October 14th, 10am - noon, Diamond Trail Park, Poweshiek Co. Iowa

Directions:
Diamond Lake Park is located just west of Montezuma. From I80, exit at Hwy 63, and go 6.5 miles south to Montezuma. Turn right on Main Street/Diamond Trail Rd and go 1.5 miles west. Turn right on Stage Coach Rd and go to the Nature Center on your left. We will meet at the Nature Center and carpool to the woods.

After the foray, we will have a pot-luck lunch. The public is invited to join us. If you bring a dish to share, it does not have to contain mushrooms. A short program will follow the lunch, then we will have our annual club meeting.
